John Matyas, PhD

Dr. Matyas has expertise in studying the histomorphology, biomechanics, and molecular cell biology of connective tissues, particularly cartilage. Dr. Matyas has experience using animal models for studying the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis and is exploring how doxycycline influences the natural history of experimental osteoarthritis and how cells from normal and osteoarthritic cartilage respond to alterations in their mechanical environment in situ and in vitro (cell mechanics).

CAN funding has allowed Dr. Matyas to collaborate with Dr. Poole in Montreal to explore how biomarkers change over time in an experimental model of osteoarthritis.

Dr. Matyas receives operating support from the CIHR, the Arthritis Society, CAN, and NSERC.

Dr. Matyas also receives career support from The Arthritis Society.
