The Canadian Arthritis Network's (CAN) Annual Scientific Conference (ASC) is
one of the arthritis community's premier networking events. The presence of basic
scientists, rheumatologists, researchers, clinical investigators, allied health
professionals, trainees, people living with arthritis, international guests,
industry and government representatives at one meeting makes the ASC a must-attend
event for people working in the arthritis field.
This past fall, more than 250 delegates convened in Toronto for CAN's 2008 ASC
(October 16-18). The conference kicked off with a full day event for graduate and
post doctorate students (trainees) that featured educational workshops and
networking sessions.
The plenary themes covered a range of topics from CAN's legacy
to building integrated teams for successful pain research to
moving from paediatric to adult care. In addition, there were
presentations devoted to models of care for arthritis treatment,
delivering the right drug for the right people at the right time
and translational research approaches. Delegates enjoyed a
multi-perspective approach to a topic whereby each panel of speakers featured an
investigator, a consumer (knowledgeable patient), a trainee and a representative
from government or industry.
With off-site events (featuring magicians!) an early-riser yoga session, a
reception and gala dinner as well as a dynamic keynote closing speech from
Dr. Alex Jadad of the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, the
conference was a jam-packed experience.
CAN's 9th Annual Scientific Conference is being held November 19-21 at
the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver, B.C. The registration page will be posted spring
2009. Please keep checking this space for exciting conference details and program
information.
