Elaine Wychreschuk
Atlantic Canada Representative

Elaine Wychreschuk, CAC representative for the Atlantic region, moved to Newfoundland and Labrador in 1974 after spending her early years in Manitoba, Alberta, B.C. and Yukon. Before pursuing a law degree, her interests and employment were varied and ranged from textile arts to community development. In addition to a public legal practice in criminal and family law, she has pursued her interest in alternate dispute resolution, equality issues and policy development. After a sudden onset of inflammation in most joints in 2001 and a surprising rapid loss of mobility, she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. So far, she considers herself lucky in terms of managing the disease by using traditional and non-traditional remedies. Of course, RA has changed most aspects of her life with an underlying theme of letting go - no more intense legal practice, no more rigourous outdoor activities, limited travel, etc. Learning how to live a full life with reduced stamina and ability remains an ongoing challenge. Her commitment to CAC includes hope for maximizing the quality of life for all who live with the many forms of arthritis.
