Marie-Eve Veilleux
Quebec Representative
Consumer Advisory Council
Montreal, Quebec
Marie-Eve Veilleux was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at a very young age. Having to cope with numerous flares and surgeries, she managed to complete various diplomas in both Immunology and Translation. Her academic success is a constant source of pride and gives her the strength to reach higher. Marie-Eve has lived through all stages of her life with Juvenile Arthritis: from being a child with indescribable pain to being a teenager undergoing four joint replacement surgeries and many complications and being a young woman trying to learn about independence while having a disability. She is active with various organizations through advocacy and bringing awareness for persons with disabilities, including the Quebec association of postsecondary students with disabilities. The arthritis community is now central to her daily life. With her involvement at The Arthritis Society, Patient Partners in Arthritis, Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance and the Consumer Advisory Council of the Canadian Arthritis Network, she has learned more about herself and her disease, but most importantly to her, she has been able to give back to the people who support her and to society in hopes to advance this cause, and in hopes that one day, she will not have to live with an elephant sitting on her shoulders.
